“Stop!” I yell. It comes out quieter than I thought. “S-stop!” The guy from the closest of the machines stops and yells back.
“You get out of there, child, you gonna get you'self hurt!”
I don't reply. I stand there waiting. The creature is sitting just next to me in its tree.
“No,” I close my eyes. He says nothing. I peek and see that he is staring at me quizzically. “No,” I say again. “I won't."
“Move or I’m gonna ram you.” Is he going to run me over? Would he? I start to shiver in the warm, humid air.
