Acerca del libro
This book contains a collection of my photographs of Golden Gate Park. Ted Purves proposed the Social Practice Workshop, of which I am a participant, to engage with this site for the production of projects dealing with public space. Gradually, I became interested in "getting to know" the park, rather than force a certain project onto it. As a foreigner to this site (I rarely had set foot in the park before), I proceeded to explore it, documenting some of its uses, its spaces and its details that I found compelling. This process, as the subtitle of the book suggests, was conducted intuitively.
The photographs were taken over a number of visits, between September '08 and January '09. I chose the ones included for their visual characteristics, for their relationship to each other and for how they recorded the human trace, either in presence or absence. This process was also intuitive.
This book is not meant to be a survey, nor a collection of landscapes, although it contains elements of both. It is a kind of visual poem, which I hope may give you a taste of my experience in meeting the park and its inhabitants.
