Acerca del libro
Pushpa Dalal
The photographs in this monograph are the result of a classical approach toward a goal—being the very best one can be and then letting go.
I prepared for a field photography workshop I would soon be attending. The pace of activities was hectic and confusing. I found myself trying too hard and getting nowhere. At that moment I let go of my goals and decided to live in the moment. I photographed at various shutter speed/aperture settings, using camera movement and flash in random fashion.
Several shots from this exercise were stunningly beautiful and unique. Encouraged and enthused I further perused the process deliberately to create this body of work.
My friend and award-winning poet, Alice Kight, added another dimension to this project by making her poems reflect my images. Her remarkable talent authoring just the right words for the images made this monograph so special.
Alice Kight
To me poetry is the mapping of human experience. The poet becomes map maker, whose medium consists of language empowered by the senses and made visible by imagination. The poetic map is varied, comprised of surprising, beautiful, sometimes frightening terrain. There are many highways and byways leading outward to connect with both known and unexpected traveling companions, leading inward to discover one’s own geography of heart, soul, spirit.
Pushpa has become an unexpected traveling companion. Some sensibility in her art speaks to me immediately, perhaps color, sense of movement or one perfectly caught emotion, often places us on the map at the same time and place.
