It was 1977 at the height of the counter culture and the magnetic pull of the hippie trail to the East, that Claire and her partner arrived in Kathmandu. She brought her Nikon camera with her and equipment to set up a darkroom. She hoped to become a photojournalist. This book details her journey and gives a rare glimpse of Kathmandu in the late 1970's, a time now gone by. in the midst of her journey, she encountered wonderful Tibetan lamas, including Dudjom Rinpoche, and Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche from whom she received teachings and had the honour and privilege of photographing.

I returned from Nepal and trained as a commercial photographer, but it seems that destiny had other plans for me. The period I spent in Asia and particularly my time in Kathmandu where I met the Tibetan Lamas and took refuge as a Buddhist, changed the course of my life. The notions of ‘space’, compassion and loving kindness, lie at the heart of Buddhism, but are also central to a healing practice. These days I live on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, alternating my time between the Dorrigo Plateau and Coffs Harbour where I still practice part time as an Osteopath. www.clairethompsonosteopath.au
