Born in the UK, Gillian was raised in the heart of Silicon Valley, just south of San Francisco. She ventured east for college, majoring in architecture at Princeton. After graduating with honors in 2004, she moved to New York and dove into photography, assisting in both the fashion and fine art worlds for several years. In 2011, she returned to the West Coast to focus on her own work.
Her predominantly photographic practice revolves around notions of time travel, loss and longing. She is a regular contributor to the online quarterly Works & Days and a recent recipient of a Magnum Foundation grant. She is currently pursuing an MFA at California College of the Arts. She lives and works in San Francisco.
