Acerca del libro
words have been translated into lines, shapes and colors-- giving them visible,
tangible form. I believe the resultant designs are open-ended to the degree that they will allow
the viewer to interpret and thereby become a participant in the process of creating this montage.
Color is the dominant feature in many of the designs; it is felt that the whisper of a hue
might be the equivalent of a poet’s intention.
The quotations appear to be related, but this was not premeditated--there is no attempt to force
these ideas into a neat package. Though there are shared sentiments, any semblance of coherence
will spring from your own sensibilities. Many of the citations which appear in this collection were
found while researching material for my lectures. As a result students in my aesthetics, color and
design courses were often the recipients of the notions of Goethe, Santayana, Tennyson, Thoreau.
Perhaps a spark now and then allowed for their perceptions to be expanded.
St. Augustine said it in this way:
“What I have in mind is the harmonia, whereby the whole body, inside and out, can
be looked upon as a kind of organic music all its own. The beauty of this music no
one has yet discovered, because no one has dared look for it. If this total organic design
could only be discerned, there would be revealed to the soul so ravishing a beauty that
no visible form could be compared with it.”
If a thought or a phrase, a line or a color provides a measure of meaning ---perhaps
it will be an affirmation that the echos of recognition spring from you.
You are invited to contemplate metaphors of ourselves.
