[Excerpt from Hypurbia]
“The solution for suburban survival are the Hypurbia which test alternative forms of less destructive suburban typologies while amply providing for the needs of its residents. The Hypurbia operate on a finite cycle of suburban consumption to reallocate its resources and immortalize the suburbs.
The suburbs are headed for extinction because they take up too much land, have segregated amenities making them car dependent, and are environmentally unsustainable. The Hypurbia appear when the suburbs have become destructive. They hold millions of people who live in personal pods and lift suburban typologies off the ground to sap their resources. Goods are available for purchase in the Digitopia – a digital realm where utopian design solutions are tested. Waste materials are refurbished to a usable state and dropped back to earth for the Hypurbians to use when they land back to earth. When all of old suburbia is taken up, there will be no more buildings left for the Hypurbia to consume. They will deposit the single family homes in a configuration based on the environments the Hypurbians experienced in the Digitopia. With a surplus of land and raw materials now available, the suburbanites, after experiencing an awaking in the Digitopia, will begin to create a completely new suburb: one of yet unrealized form and perhaps vastly different from original suburbia. Nevertheless, an embryonic Hypurbia will always remain to rise up to redevour the new configuration if indeed it becomes harmful to human life on earth again.”
