Kitchen Magic (1995)
What I remember most about the women in my family during my childhood was their magic. I grew up believing in women's magic--the wonderful smells that came from the kitchen and the joy and contentment they made you feel when you walked in the door. I always thought that's what a woman's magic was all about--the luscious, warm, comforting smells from the kitchen. The rich, hearty aroma of minestrone and French bread on a stormy Autumn evening, the tomato-tang of all-day spaghetti sauce,...could any family not be charmed where the kitchen gave off such wonderful aromas?
No matter how old I get, I still feel the same comfort and security I felt as a child when I enter my parents' house and I smell some luscious dish that my mother is fixing for dinner. Holidays are the best--we humans always mark momentous occasions with food, don't we? ...
