Acerca del libro
This volume is a compilation of first-hand vignettes and longer portrayals of raw, unadulturated exploration into areas of the world that few have seen or can even comprehend—stories of discovery, wonder, and adventure. It is an opportunity for the explorers, themselves, to tell their tales.
Cycads are some of the most unique—and most endangered—plants in the world, and the stories included herein are as varied as the species, environments, and cultures they represent. Contributing authors hail from eight countries on four continents, and their awe-inspiring personal accounts—which explore more than 70 cycad species in 12 countries and include more than 200 tantalizing photos—are grouped into the four main geographic regions that have native cycads: the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
While most people are unfamiliar with cycads, everyone loves a great tale. These stories will immerse you into a “whole ’nother” world. So sit back and enjoy!

Acerca del creador
Jody Haynes
Miami, FL, USA
Jody Haynes has been a cycad enthusiast and researcher for nearly 30 years. He was the cycad biologist for a major botanical garden in the mid-2000s and is currently a research associate at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, FL. He has studied cycads in Honduras, Panama, and Mexico; has described seven new species in three countries; and has authored more than 100 scientific, extension, and popular articles. His fondest memories, and perhaps most lasting legacy involving cycads is, along with Dr. Mark Bonta, the reinvigoration of local (and national) respect of, and protection for, Dioon mejiae (teosinte) in Honduras.
