Acerca del libro
Software on Space Station Freedom was dominated by the operating system. command and control software called DMS (Data Management System). This book primarily tells the story of one persons involvement with DMS and, to some extent, how he and DMS became part of Freedom. This person, George Poe, did not work in the DMS effort directly but he was as deeply involved as a user of DMS could be. DMS was being built by IBM as subcontractor to McDonald-Douglas and Johnson Space Center. George was a Boeing employee. Boeing was building the US Laboratory and Habitation modules as a contractor to Marshall Space Flight Center. Everything in the Lab and Hab was driven by software so the success, or failure, of DMS meant success or failure to Boeing. George was required to be very aware of DMS and its challenges. This is his memoir of DMS and Freedom.
