Jim struck out on his on own at 17 and received a degree in Aerospace engineering in 1986. He became a commissioned oicer in the US Air Force and then spent a few years with General Electric Aerospace in California. After General Electric, he started a photography business with his wife and later purchased a custom window/door business.

In 2004, they sold both their businesses and real estate in California and purchased real estate in Las Vegas. He is the broker for Limestone Investments LLC which manages single family, multi-family and commercial properties. The company has several agents and about 450 doors under management.
