Susan Gerard-Schelinski was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington, spending summers at a summer camp on Samish Island. Susan has been a bugler, dishwasher, camp counselor, elementary teacher, waitress, retail clerk, retail garden owner, nurses aide, basket maker and photographer. She has a M.Ed. degree in curriculum and instruction where she focused on developing a writing game for children built around Irish folk and fairy tales. She is married to Jim Schelinski, a building contractor. After retiring they moved to Molokai, Hawaii where they now reside.. She does not consider her poems to be literature, but writes about common things for common people. This book was written mainly to share with family and friends. Her book on Molokai containing photos and poems is more of a gift book.
