Jose A. Gelabert-Navia is an architect and educator. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1954 he left his homeland to live in Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and since 1981, in the United States. He graduated from Cornell University where his teachers, which included Colin Rowe, stirred his love for history and travel. Besides drawing and teaching, he has lectured widely as well as practiced internationally. His work has received numerous awards and his articles have been widely published. Since 1996, he has been the Managing Principal of the Miami Office of Perkins + Will.

In 1991, while he was the Dean of the School of Architecture, he started the University of Miami’s Italian Studies Program in Rome to allow the students to experience first-hand European art and culture. The watercolors in this book were done while travelling in the Cyclades. Prof. Gelabert-Navia’s work has been exhibited before, but this is the first publication entirely devoted to his drawings.
