From being a viola player in the Halle Orchestra during the great days of Sir John Barbirolli in the nineteen-fifties, Malcolm Tillis has been continuously involved with creative work for 60 years. After leaving the Halle and publishing "Chords and Discords - the Life of an Orchestral Musician", he lived in Spain and became a successful designer and had well-received exhibitions of batik silk works in Paris, Barcelona and London.

From 1973, he and his wife (the novelist Kate Christie) spent eleven years in India where he collected a series of interviews from other westerners living there.

His first book of collages, "Dance of Rapture", was published in 2009.

Some of the collages in this book are the product of more than 20 years work. He suggests that his collages - his use of discarded paper, card and mixed media - are the ultimate in recycling.

"To me, all art has to have harmony, rhythm, colour, space, even clashing disharmony, not unlike a continuation of music"
