As a nature photographer, writer and advocate, John Norton dedicated time away from mountain paths and forest trails to photographing dogs at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, NY. His book, "That Time I Needed Love," is a collection of shelter dog portraits that showcase John's ability to capture evocative images that reveal the plight, struggle and spirit of dogs rescued from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. His portraits helped promote the adoption of hundreds of homeless dogs.
Aside from his shelter dog project, John's focus on wilderness and environmental issues continues to grow an expansive portfolio with such subjects as Yellowstone wolves, wild horses, white-tail deer, animal sanctuaries, and the clean up of the Hudson River. His work has been published in national magazines, and he's had three solo exhibitions.
