Ryan began taking photographs in high school with his Dad's old Nikon, working for the school newspaper. At college, his photographs were published in his school's literary magazine. His first book of photography is YOU ARE HERE: Two years between Mexico and America.

Ryan earned a B.A. in Rhetoric & Communication Studies and Psychology from the University of Richmond and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law. He works as an attorney.
