Robert M. Jackson has been an underwater photographer since 1969, and a YMCA certified diver since 1968. He is a NAUI scuba instructor and has completed the NOAA Course in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine. He is a NAUI nitrox instructor and is certified in trimix diving. He has done underwater photography courses with Kenneth R.H. Read and David Doubilet at the Cambridge YWCA and workshops with Jim Church and Christopher Newbert. He is a national Fellow of the Explorers Club.
He graduated from Boston University College of Liberal Arts and School of Medicine. After completing training in medicine and pulmonary diseases at the University of Miami, he completed two and one half years of respiratory and hyperbaric physiology as a post doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Institute for Environmental Medicine.
He is currently Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the Miami VA.
