Brian O’Connor is professor and a founding director of the Visual Thinking Laboratory in the College of Information at the University of North Texas. Thinkering is how he describes his weaving together of research interests and methods, building boats, shooting photographs, installing an art show, urging on a Ph.D. student. Currently he is working on a social media documentary triptych, as well as meandering through Greek and Latin works for a book on Metis and re-claiming specificity. His research focuses on Photo Provocations (thinking in, with and about photographs); Doing Things with Information (being human); Structures of Image Collections (how much entropy can you stand?); and Soft retrieval (pragmatic philosophy and computation).
