Gretchen Jang is influenced by the heritage of three robust clans: old world, new world, and Asian. Born in San Francisco, in the vortex of Pacific Rim fusion culture, Gretchen was also immersed in her loving family's diverse faiths. She inherited her asian american artist birth-mother's intense focus and her cinematographer birth-father's eye for light in motion.
She began to paint at an early age, her talents encouraged by her father's passion for sculpture and photography. Her integrity was formed by her mother's heart and soul.
Gretchen Jang born in 1982 graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts in 2007. She was selected for the UC Berkeley theatre and dialect program in London. During her studies she created cultural photo documentaries of her visits to Shanghai and to Louisiana, after hurricane Katrina.
Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and in Switzerland. Gretchen Jang lives and works from her studio in Portland Oregon
