I hadn’t thought of myself as an artist, even though my ancestry would suggest otherwise. My family includes musicians, painters, sketchers, and performers. However, I’d accepted the fact that I would never be able to transfer what my eyes perceived, from my brain to my pencil or brush, onto a canvas.
When my husband was deployed to Iraq for a year, I decided to find a hobby. I bought a “point and shoot” and just started observing and discovering the world around me through the lens of my camera. Maybe if I couldn’t create beauty, I could capture it. Now, I look at everything and every day as a photo opportunity. Digital photography has allowed me to share my perceptions and appreciate the “unusual in the usual.”
