Born in Santa Barbara, California, Doug Sterrett was trained at Brooks Institute of Photography. He began his career in 16 mm film, producing television commercials in Portland, Oregon where he met his wife, Pat. After re-training in videotape production, he spent the majority of his career with Idaho Power Company in Boise, Idaho, retiring in 2000.

Doug and Pat now live in Bellingham, Washington, with Brodie MacRae, their Scottish Terrier.
