From deep knowledge springs intuition. Typography and book design are both science and art. To neglect one aspect is to diminish the other. When dealing with layout, formal restrictions must be considered, but ultimately the decision is intuitive. The designer must always be aware of the boundaries and always prepared to exceed them.
