At the age of sixteen I discovered the camera in a big way. I immediately understood that photography could help me to foster relationships with people who I might not normally connect with. For many years these “connections” were mostly driven by my libido.
As I slowly learned to love all kinds of peoples and cultures, my passion to capture them in a deeper way than I had ever known grew within me.
I have always strived to make an empathic connection with my subject thru my photography, rather than just voyeuristically documenting them. It doesn't matter whether it’s a celebrity or a street person or a vignette of a character from history, I want to feel their pains and share in their joys. I want to be able to feel the texture of their clothes, and know what it means to live a day in their shoes.
To be able to distill the complete essence of someone into a two dimensional image, replete with all their subtle nuances is to me the epitome of success.
