William B. Ashton (Bill) was born in Southern California in 1939 at the start of the Second World War. At San Marino High School he excelled athletically and academically. Upon graduation he received the mathematics award given to the highest math student in the senior class. He went on to study engineering at Stanford University, graduating in 1964 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering.

After graduation from college, Bill immediately began working for North American Aviation on the Saturn 5 rocket for the Apollo Moon Project. He worked on the design of the second stage rocket insulation. Though only one of thousands of engineers who worked on the project, he is still proud to say he was part of that marvelous event of landing a man on the moon in 1969.

In 1964, Bill went back to Stanford and obtained an MBA from Stanford’s School of Business. Subsequent to obtaining that degree he worked for Hewlett Packard and several Southern California aerospace companies for 38 years
