Specializes in photographing images with equestrian themes, rodeo action, rural environment. vintage American retrospectives, and historically insignificant architectural elements. Motion and visual perspectives are favorite themes of John's images from earth. Teaching photography and digital photo editing techniques has been a passionate activity as well. He feels that sharing experience and knowledge helps a community grow in a healthy way. It develops both the teacher and the student.

A long time leader and member of various Twin Cities photographic community organizations, and past President of the St Paul Photographer’s Cooperative, and Crosstown Camera Club. He is a member of the Praxis Gallery. Co-owner of Aurora Gallery & Lens Prose Studio at the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis, MN. For many years, he has judged local and international photographic salons and worked with writers in sports and trade magazine publications.
