Gbelee Sumo, born in 1984 in Liberia, fled her country because of war and lived in the neighbouring country (Guinea) as a refugee for over 14 years. In 2005, she came to Canada as a refugee.

She was born and raised in a traditional African family where every woman had to learn how to cook, clean and be a responsible house wife. During Gbelee's days of learning how to cook traditional African food, she had to memorize all the African recipes that were passed on from one generation to another and prepare them properly.

After living in Canada for so many years, she decided to have some of her recipes in writing that way she would be able to share them with people who like international food.
