Blurb Launches Bookmaking Plug-In for Adobe InDesign

The first of its kind, the plug-in streamlines the bookmaking process for book designers

San Francisco, Calif. — June 21, 2011 — Blurb, the creative publishing and marketing platform, today announced the release of their plug-in for Adobe® InDesign®. The plug-in, compatible with CS3, 4 and 5, will allow users to easily generate any of Blurb’s hundreds of page and cover templates right within InDesign and greatly improves the export and PDF-to-Book upload process — providing users with a more streamlined bookmaking experience.

Blurb’s Plug-in, the first of its kind offered by a mainstream online book making platform, puts every combination of Blurb book type and customization option, at the fingertips of design savvy users. This seamless experience, from conception of a book project to the high quality printing Blurb.com offers, is unmatched in the industry. What’s more, the plug-in is unique in that, by way of a proprietary export preset, it ensures files print flawlessly and any color management work is maintained.

The key features of the Plug-in for InDesign include:

  • Blurb Template Creator interface, which creates blank page and cover templates in InDesign on selection of book size and paper, or cover, type.
  • Blurb PDF export preset, which is automatically installed for higher quality printing
  • Error reduction in Blurb’s PDF-to-Book upload process.

The plug-in further extends Blurb’s unparalleled range of bookmaking tools, particularly for designers and photographers looking for more creative control in their book design. With 3 covers, 5 paper types and 5 end sheet color choices Blurb’s extensive range of nearly 500 unique combinations challenges that of services usually restricted to pros.

“The free Blurb plug-in for InDesign CS5.5 is an excellent resource for anyone using InDesign who wants to publish a book with Blurb,” said Kiyo Toma, senior product manager for InDesign at Adobe. “This plug-in lets every InDesign user focus on book design by reducing the complexity inherent in the book production process.”

Blurb’s Plug-in for InDesign is the second in a suite of applications designed to work in conjunction with Adobe products, following the May launch of their Adobe PhotoShop Lightroom Plug-in.
