Acerca del libro electrónico
¿Uno o dos? Dual Languages in the American Classroom is Madeline's senior project. She decided to write her project as a book that explores the topic of bilingual education through the varying models of dual language learning, where students learn in about 50 percent English and 50 percent of the partner language.
Madeline talked to educators and linguistics professionals around the country trying to grasp the complex topic where education and language combine. Taking case studies from around the country in Montgomery County, Maryland, Portland Oregon and Utah Madeline makes the case that this is a type of program that can be implemented anywhere.
This project was inspired by Madeline's own journey through language learning. She has studied Spanish, Italian, French and Arabic. Her study abroad to Rabat, Morocco where she studied journalism was the biggest influence on Madeline's later love of languages. Not having the ability to communicate easily to her host parents, friends or acquaintances she was making really helped her to understand multilingualism and translingual as a necessity to participate in an ever-increasingly globalized world.
