Acerca del libro
All the proceeds will be donated to humanitarian organizations helping the Acholi community in Uganda.
In January 2009 I travelled to Uganda through a humanitarian organization - Project Have Hope - to visit my sponsored child and to document on video the community programs.
The Acholi Quarter is a camp in the outskirts of Kampala where refugees from the North of Uganda converge since the beginning of the war. It is estimated to be home of 10.000 people who are extremely poor and severely attacked by Malaria and AIDS.
I shot almost 2000 photos, but none can properly show the smell, the dirt, the lack of conditions, the desperation, and their horror stories. Curiously, one common thing I can find on most of my photos is a smile - it translates very much the Faith and the Hope that drives the Acholi People.
I felt completely overwhelmed by the helplessness of what was presented to my eyes, but their warmth and smiles inspire me to understand that the smallest action we take, can generate the biggest impact in their lives.
As a thank you, I decided to put together a book that records some of the good memories I brought to the luckiest side of the planet.
