Growing up in the flint hills of Kansas gave Helen Buzenberg an appreciation for subtle beauty in Nature, for the horizon and for the incredible variety of cloud displays above the prairie. Helen’s study of ecology and then horticulture in college impacts her writing by understanding the interconnectedness and value of all parts of life. As a lifelong traveler, starting as a child in the back seats of a Cessna 195 piloted by her dad and her uncle, she developed her love and appreciation for the surface of the earth as a bird would view it and gratitude for earth’s astonishing diversity. Ever since visiting Machu Picchu as a teenager, wandering through ruins and feeling their ancient energies continues to be a favorite activity. Her poetry is influenced by her mother, Dr. Seuss, Wendell Berry, Robinson Jeffers, and all the rhymes from the childcraft books she read as a child. Helen is a mother and grandmother and lives with her husband Mark Z and four cats in Eugene, Oregon.
