The making of a monumental sculpture honoring the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush's contribution to WWII.
The sculpture, by artist Michael Maiden is a life-and-a-quarter sized, bronze monument located on the hangar deck of the newly commissioned USS Bush.
As a 19 year old Pilot during WWII, H.W. Bush was the youngest Navy pilot at the time. His TBM Avenger encountered intense anti-aircraft fire on September 2nd, 1944, while flying a mission against the Japanese, in the Bonin Islands. He finished his bombing mission and flew out to sea where he ejected from his aircraft and was rescued by the USS Finback.
