Acerca del libro
Things That Shake Loose addresses the concepts of historical identity of objects and what value we give them as a society. Can objects that have been disregarded by society be revalued? Through the process of collecting the fall off and forgotten and revaluing it based on it’s emotional and kinetic value objects can be reindexed. Indexing based on personal knowledge, experience or history. This allows the finding of what I see as the “intrinsic” value of objects to the world. My process is to: collect, identify, organize, combined and reindex items so that viewers identify the source of the material but in a new context add a layer of value not previously identified.
This process reframes objects and invites exploration through personal remembrance, object specificity, revaluation, sacred space, and material culture. The result is a body of work that reintroduces discarded items back into society and encourages deliberate examination of how our society values objects.
