Acerca del libro
Youth from the Southwick Community Center worked with photographer Carrie Burr to learn the art and skill of photography. The resulting images capture a meaningful moment in each participant’s personal history.
Participants learned the basics of portrait photography and were asked to photograph family members or loved ones they feel a strong connection with. This project allowed the youth to tell their personal story through visual documentation of significant individuals in their lives. Drawing from personal experiences and familiar environments, each participant created a intimate series of photographs.
This project provided the opportunity for each of the youth involved to have a role in the planning, implementing, and reviewing of the family photo documentation process and these final photographs act as the start of a "family photo tree" for each child.
The Louisville Visual Art Association would like to thank their project partner The Speed Art Museum and donors on power2give for their help in providing the digital cameras for all youth participants.
