Acerca del libro
Places are rhubarb and bricks that turn up stamped with ‘Thornhill Lees’ when you’re digging over the ground, rhubarb that tastes of the soil it grows in and bricks fired from local mud. But a typical West Yorkshire place might also be a couple of streets where you can meet people with strong connections to Batley, Birmingham, Bosnia, Bangladesh and Brazil.
There’s an awful lot of places in Loca’s fourteen years, all of them in the neighbourhoods and towns of Kirklees, and all of them with global connections. Throughout this time, Loca artists and staff have been rooted firmly in their own locality behind the high brick walls of Redbrick Mill in Batley Carr, above a store selling Japanese furniture, but have constantly stepped beyond the comfort of those walls to make real and thorough changes in places that have ‘lost their bounce’.
