Acerca del libro
Tracing the Portola tells the story of a little known working class neighborhood on the outside rim of a world famous city, San Francisco. Through a series of hand-painted maps, authors Kate Connell and Oscar Melara describe the layers of history that make this neighborhood rich. From terrain of the Ohlone to Spanish Rancho and from windmill powered flower nurseries and truck gardens to a global community once home to San Francisco’s immigration station, the Portola District is vital and complicated. This outlying District is one of the remaining neighborhoods where the blue collar work force still resides in this city built by the labor movement. Edited by Kathleen Coll with an essay by Richard Walker.
