Reflections
We all see the world as reflected through our own experiences. What we see and what we look for is a response to what we like as well as what we have learned to look for. The academic study of the History of Art and Architecture has influenced my interest in great edifices as well as enhancing my eye for artistic compositions. Throughout my photographic journey I have consistently been drawn to dramatic angles, high contrasts, textural variations, rhythm, repetition and complexity. I look for the same elements and principles of design to frame my vision regardless of the subject matter.
I photograph people, animals, and landscapes, both natural and urban. In nature, it is always a wonderful surprise to happen upon a tranquil lake or pond reflecting the majesty that surrounds it. In the chaotic urban landscape, stone, concrete, and glass surround us and can overwhelm a viewer. I look for, and capture with my lens, intimate interludes in the frenzied metropolitan existence. To reflect great structures of the past in the glass of modern constructions can be exciting. It is also possible to see the present reflected in structures of the past. Time seems to meld as the images unite to create a unique reality.
As a photographer, I always try to see and photograph things from unique perspectives. This show Reflections is the culmination my artistic vision to date. I have tried to illustrate that one can find beauty, complexity, and intrigue in a puddle, a fountain, a river, a window, or a glass facade. We all reflect our interests, desires, and even our dreams in what we choose to seek and photograph. It is my hope that Reflections will inspire you to take in and celebrate your surroundings in a new way.
