Acerca del libro
Last Resorts is a body of photographic research, part catalog and part documentary, examining the habitation and defense of coastlines vulnerable to rising sea levels and storm surges. This set was shot in support of a masters thesis in architecture while at MIT, bearing the same title, which proposed defensive resort typologies to counter the effects of global warming in the Republic of the Maldives. Last Resorts presents a portrait of coastal habitation, and an attempt to identify those moments in which architecture might intersect with infrastructure and ecology. The urban coastline is indistinct: what was once a sharp termination between land and sea has become blurred by dredging, filling, and floating. As the occupation of this zone becomes increasingly tenuous, strategies to humanize defensive landscapes must be considered with greater urgency.
