Acerca del libro
This book of illustrations and poetry arises out of my commitment to care for my ninety-five year old mother, Annabelle Yates who was devastated by the loss of my father, Francis Gordon Yates, her husband of seventy-two years. Art and poetry calm my spirit and offer me continual insight to bear grief’s truth. Each day I hold my mother’s hand in love as we pass through various landscapes created from her despair. I help sort the illusions of chaos. In the beginning stages of grief, my mother’s depression overshadows every room in her home. Her will, powered by a disturbed attachment to great loss, builds large piles and clusters of her things, and strong uncertainty leaves unopened letters stacked in each corner of her home. Every space is burdened and barricaded. Her solution is to pull the bed covers over her head and sleep. We face each emotional and mental challenge as two senior citizens reentering the outdated familial domain of mother and daughter.
I developed “minute art” as a way to capture in the moment my experiences. This book is shaped from the articulations of my soul’s understanding, and insights that have flashed forth into my awareness.
