Serve The City
Through much prayer, my good friend, Andy Cox, and I launched Serve The City in September of 2009. God had placed on our hearts a vision to reach out to poor families living in the East End of Lexington, KY. We knew we would start small, using a simple grassroots approach, to adopt a few homes on a neighborhood street. As we prayed about which street to adopt first, the Lord led us to Warnock St. Andy had actually lived on Warnock St. until he was seven-years-old. He felt that it would be perfect to go back and love the families who live there now.
This book is a series of stories collected during the first 15 months of Serve The City's existence. These stories took place across four adopted neighborhood streets: Warnock St., and over the course of a year, the Lord opened up the doors for us to adopt Race St., East 2nd St., and Ohio St. With God's help, we have been able to build some incredible relationships with dozens of families in the East End.
I am not a writer and this book is not meant to be a polished, bookstore worthy edition. Instead, it is intended to be raw and real and to show God’s power at work in the East End and in the lives of our volunteers.
God has done amazing things during the first 15 months, some of what I would consider to be miracles. All the time, I tell people that if you ever have any doubts about God, come and be a part of Serve The City. I am humbled to be used like this by God and I pray these stories greatly encourage you with the truth that there is a God who loves us, provides for us, and laid down His life for us.
