Acerca del libro
World War II Memoirs by a U.S. infantry soldier who fought across Europe with the 76th Division, 304th Infantry, D Company (heavy weapons group).
Jack O’ Connell McClure survived the horrors of the Normandy invasion (D-Day) and the Battle of the Bulge. Jack tells how his entire Division was all but wiped out, how he fled the Germans on foot and survived for a month in the bitter cold of a January winter in the Ardennes Forest.
Jack experienced two major storms at sea and survived a German torpedo attack.
Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Nazis, Jack won the Bronze Star for bravery by commanding his handful of men to capture two hundred armed Germans on the battlefield. Jack also guarded S.S. officers who were being interrogated for war crimes.
Jack tells about training to become an Army Air Cadet, how it was that all of the Cadets were grounded and returned to the infantry, and how not being allowed to graduate as an officer probably saved his life.
Told in Jack’s own words, his stories have been transcribed and edited by daughter Becky (Rebecca Norberg) and her husband Kevin, and published with photos from Jack and Evelyn’s lives from before they met until 1950—five years after the War ended.
