Herman The Heron is a book which was inspired by a true story of two young Green Herons who were unfortunately abandoned by their parents when they prematurely happened out of the large maple tree where they were hatched. Herman, one of the Green Herons, tells their story which is illustrated with actual photos taken of them during that week as they adapted to their new life on their own. I am married to David Parson and am a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, where I taught Social Studies at Parkview High School for 32 years. After I retired in 2002, I have enjoyed developing my interests in birdwatching and photographing those birds which visit our yard. In 2008 I had the great experience of observing two young Green Herons for a week and one of them for a month. I took well over 400 photos during that time and got some really good shots which was one of the motivations for writing this book to share those photos. Since then I have taken hundreds of other photos of a great variety of birds that have entertained me.
