Acerca del libro
This is a photo book collaboration between five photographers from different parts of the world - Austria, Croatia, Philippines and the US. It is a collection of different photographic genres, ranging from portraits, landscape, still life, black and white, and high dynamic range images. It is being published to benefit the Fifty4Fifty Education Fund, a grassroots initiative to help poor but deserving young students in the Philippines attain a high school education.
Here's an explanation from the book itself:
Making a difference.
Fifty at a time.
For many children in the Philippines, education remains a sure way out of poverty and deprivation. And while primary and secondary education in the Philippines is theoretically free for all, the country continues to be plagued by high dropout rates in primary and secondary schools.
Set up in 2006, the Fifty4Fifty Educational Fund is a grass roots initiative to make a difference in the life of 50 young students in the Philippines. Working with local church parishes, the fund provides each student an allowance of 10 Euro a month (about $12). This extra money covers the costs of daily transportation, meals and school supplies, without which many of these students could not continue their studies.
Since this charity began, 20 young students in Palawan and in Batangas have graduated high school. Thirty more - in Silay City, Negros Occidental - are finishing high school in 2010-2011.
For them, a door has been opened. A door to life above the poverty line, and to opportunities they would not have had before.
All of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be used to help these students complete secondary education. Hopefully, enough will remain to allow Fifty4Fifty to send some of the most deserving of these students through vocational school... or even university.
With your support, we can help make a difference. One student at a time. Fifty times.
