Acerca del libro
GRANDMOTHER SAID: SKY LESSONS is about life and death, the land, women’s wisdom, and generational rhythms and patterns of experience. The novella is a female testimonial chaptered journal-style by a granddaughter-recorder who filters youthful memories and adult attempts at personal authenticity through her relationship with her grandmother. They share deep emotions and textured lives. They bake bread.
“Home” for the narrator is with Grandmother out on The Texas Plains, always in heart and as often as her busy eastern life allows in actual company. Grandmother gently unwraps her memories and lessons, rare gifts. She waits to be asked. She reminds her granddaughter of her own power by example, by refusing to rescue another or compromise herself. She’s consistently honest and compassionately direct. She loves with an open hand.
GRANDMOTHER SAID is an expedition, a story of recovery of age-old female strength and tenacity. It’s an example of how we get quiet, re-centered, resilient through respect for and proximity to the land. Grandmother teaches joy in acceptance and an altered view of successful living. She references her understanding metaphorically through the broad West Texas sky. She limits herself only by an endless horizon. She trusts herself and God.
