Acerca del libro
What do you know about water? You may think there isn’t much to know about such a common, simple thing as water, yet scientists tell us we have yet to really understand its properties. Water is an enigmatic life-sustaining substance full of secrets and paradoxes. Transparent yet visible, over the centuries it seeped into mythical, philosophical and religious imagery as well as our common figures of speech.
This fascinating and unusual book proposes a different way to understand the multi-faceted mystery of water. Its author, Francesca Profili, is an artist who sculpts masks and paints images on them to express the many faces of reality: the things that are less apparent, concealed, masked.
In On the Face of the Waters, her truly unique artwork and inspiring, informative, at times exquisitely poetic text combine to explore the many aspects of water in a profoundly moving way. After diving into Profili’s spellbinding world, you will surface with an entirely new perception and appreciation of the “stuff of life.”

Acerca del creador
Francesca Profili, a Canadian artist of Italian descent, comes from a family of self-taught artists with many inborn talents. Her parents and her paternal grandparents were fashion designers. She expresses her creativity through sculptures in the shape of masks because she has always been fascinated by their multi-layered world of symbols, allegories and metaphors. Francesca has a bachelor of arts degree in urban economic geography from McGill University in Montreal and worked in a wide range of fields prior to realizing her dream of becoming a full-time artist. She exhibited her artwork in several private and public galleries and had a solo exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Craft and Design in 1995. Her original pieces as well as her limited edition prints grace numerous private collections in North America and Europe.
