Acerca del libro
According to folklore, black cats are bad luck. Even in our modern world, black cats and dogs are among the most difficult to adopt.
Contrary to this superstition, John Watkins details how two black cats, Mocha and Marie, have enriched the lives of himself and his wife, Margaret, to whom the book is dedicated.
Mocha was a stray cat found in a parking lot on a cold winter day in Macon, Georgia. Mocha was a beautiful cat who had the unique quality of a "silver lining," meaning that she had silver fur under her black coat, revealed if she were stroked against the grain.
Despite her hard start in life, Mocha went on to spend many happy years with John and Margaret, and her somewhat zany feline siblings.
About a year after Mocha had died, and shortly before Christmas, John had a strange and compelling urge to visit the Atlanta Humane Society. Upon entering the "cat room," he saw a small black cat with a rather astonishing resemblance to Mocha. Even more amazingly, the little cat also also had a silver lining. This little cat, who would be named Marie, had been turned into to the Humane Society only a day or so earlier.
Was this meeting coincidence? Maybe, but John would like to think that a higher power was looking out for both Marie and himself.
Marie has subsequently spent many happy years with John and Margaret, and other feline siblings. Marie pretty much runs the house, and certainly keeps the other cats in line.
John's fondest hope is that this book will encourage others to adopt a cat or a dog, preferably from a shelter. A donation will be made to the Atlanta Humane Society or a no-kill shelter for every copy sold.
