The author was taken on various messy trips to Mexico as a child which endeared her to the country during its time of poverty. After she married, she insisted on dragging her husband there, and he thinks he got her to promise never to take him again. When they had children, they took them, too. During these trips, everyone got sick, scared or irritated, but they kept going. Mexico has changed over the years, however, which makes for an interesting contrast with its not too distant past. Humorous.
