If you step out the door in India without your camera, you are instantly regretful. Nowhere are colour, spirituality and life itself celebrated with such abandon.
From the buzz-ling, stately chaos of Delhi to the crowded and fraying majesty of Rajasthan; from the old, abandoned, but very-much alive shell of Fatehpur Sikri to a love story in Agra which bankrupted an empire in exchange for a legacy of indescribable beauty; from Varanasi, a city obsessed with a river and endowed with thousands of years of enigmatic ritual to Ladakh, where the most spectacular Himalayan scenery is surpassed only by the warmth and beauty of its people, this book captures the spirit of India with an impartial eye.
Photographs are arranged by theme:
"Big" covers stunning landscapes like Pangong Lake, an impossibly blue salty lake which changes colour with the sun, and iconic buildings like the Taj Mahal.
"Wet" celebrates the monsoon in all its driving power and life-giving glory.
"Colourful" captures the fabric of Indian life, be it ceremonial marigolds, Buddhist prayer wheels or Himalayan sunsets.
"Human" shows the faces of India, from Rajasthan royalty to the street kids of Salaam Baalak in Delhi.
"Faith" is what holds Indians together, from Muslim Mughals to bathing Hindus to praying Buddhist monks.
This book is a project of love. I hope you enjoy the big, wet, colourful, human faith that is India.
