Acerca del libro
Fenland is a landscape in transition: since the salt marshes were drained, it has been constantly shaped and reshaped by the human and natural forces. This photobook is a meditation on the vastness of Fenland landscape and its empty spaces.
“Unpainted, empty space” holds a significant value within the Eastern art tradition. In the Western practice, it is generally regarded as negative space, a “lack of forms or a space of incompletion” (Joon, 2007:103).
Below the Sea series questions this western perception and attempts to look at empty space as a meaningful part of the whole, “not only as one of invisible space in the visual arts but also, for instance, as one of silence, interrupted temporal flow, gaps and distances…” (ibid).
