How to Plant a Garden in the City
Service Learning Meets Healthy Fun at Awbury Arboretum in Philadelphia
How to Plant a Garden in the City is the success story of the public service work conducted at Awbury Arboretum, a public garden in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Students from public, private, parochial, and charter schools come to participate in planting, weeding, watering and harvesting. As part of their education, they learn firsthand about locally grown food and community partnerships.
Awbury is an urban arboretum, a green oasis in the city of Philadelphia whose mission is to preserve and interpret the historic house and landscape, thereby connecting an urban community with nature and history.
