At least 4 million Iranians live outside of Iran. In 2009, the Internation- al Monetary Fund announced that Iran is the first among the 91 countries under development in level of elite’s migration.
Because of the political and economical sanctions during last decades against Iran, as well as information censorship, there is a big gap between the Iranians outside and inside the country. Each side has some false and strange imagination about the life of the others.
Border, distance and remoteness are the main concepts of the migration phenomena. And the dream is its engine.
This project is intended as a global typologyy of modern Iranian women in exile. I document the adventures of young Iranian women who started a long journey beyond their maternal land for some intellectual reasons.
In this type of migration, the migrants make a dream or have an imagination about the destination where they migrate. We discuss about how much their imagination was the reflect of what they faced once they were installed in their new life, how much their migration dream became true. We record and exchange our various experiences from exile via photography, sound and text.
We talk about the differences in their life before and after the migration, the lifestyle, geographic differences. How they are connected with their new environment and how they are defined by their new landscape. Migrantes is an essay between fiction document and reality. The images of these mi- grants is supposed to describe their imagination. The photography itself, as a medium to record the reality is not that faithful to it. It is a slice of reality which makes the horse of imagination riding. Although there are lots of work about the migration phenomena in general but concerning the recent migration and especially for the women we find very few studies and documentary works. I am myself in a migrant position since 2009 and I am still questioning today my altered identity in this new landscape. It is somewhat a
